Work: Turning marketers into engines of social change!

I will say it right away. My work is not work. It is more of an hobby as I really love what I do. What is it? It is all about being a marketing professor which is all about teaching, research, and service. And when it comes to me, it is all about 911 which has nothing to do with the Twin Towers. It is all about a world with 9 billion people living on one planet and one problem. Today, there is about 7.2 billion people around the world. By 2050, there will be over 9 billion of them. All of these people, including me and all those I love, live on one planet, the Earth. And this planet is supposed to provide air, water, energy, and all the other natural resources we all need to stay alive (not mentioning enjoying doing so). Unfortunately, these resources are finite and we, people, are rapidly depleting them because we keep buying what firms sell to us and they sell us stuff that can’t be made without those resources. And that is the problem. But every problem has a solution! And this one can be solved by making marketing part of the solution rather than part of the problem. How? Social impact marketing–marketing that turns marketers into engines of social change and leads to profits that are actually sustainable. That is what I believe in. And that is what I try to communicate through my teaching, research, and service.
